Nease InstituteOverview

starting off strong

2017 Dates: Sunday, July 30 – Friday, Aug. 18

The Nease Institute at MVNU is a summer bridge program and first-year experience that offers incoming freshmen the opportunity to strengthen their academic preparation for university courses, develop proven university success skills, become comfortable and experienced with the student-centered services of MVNU, build a supportive group of friends and mentors, and have some fun in the process.

Click here to learn more about the benefits of the Nease Institute.

The Nease Institute begins with a three-week residential summer bridge program and extends through the first year as Nease students continue to study and learn together as well as work with their Nease Institute Peer Mentors.

One of the primary indicators of a student who would benefit from the Nease Institute is the student’s ACT composite score and their high school GPA. Of all students entering college between the years 2000 and 2008 with an ACT composite score of 19 or below, less than 50 percent of these students were able to stay on course and graduate. We are far from satisfied with this percent, and we are determined to proactively help our incoming freshman. Together, we can significantly raise the rate of success for students entering MVNU.

If your ACT composite score is 22 or less, and especially if it is 19 or less, you are invited to apply to the Nease Institute. The summer bridge program of the Nease Institute is a 19-day residential summer session on the campus of MVNU, designed to provide you with an advantage, a boost, to the start of your college career. Our curriculum is designed to improve public speaking, writing, critical thinking, along with a variety of college success strategies (note taking, time management, test taking, etc.).
